From Burlesque to Flamenco, Hip Hop to heartbreak, grief, comedy, and collaboration — June Dance 2023: Love Loss, and the Quest for Transcendence — takes us on an exciting and edgy journey of exploration into the visceral, visual, and audial experience associated with multiple states of being.
Hosted by the Moving Grief Project, the Cherry Arts, and New York State Dance Force, this project delves into the sometimes awkward and uncomfortable, funny and/or ridiculous physical, visual, and sonic manifestations of the human condition. And as humans, we continually strive to break free from distressing conditions and aspire to transcend towards elation and/or ecstasy. In a wide range of performance and dance interpretations, June Dance 2023: Love, Loss, and the Quest for Transcendence features performances by movement artists: Gquan Booker, Rik Daniels, Kathy Lucas, Aimee Rials, Marilyn Rivchin, Jim Self, and Indira White.
June Dance 2023: Love, Loss, and the Quest for Transcendence” is made possible with funds from the NYS DanceForce, a partnership program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature. Additionally, portions of this project are made possible with SOS grant funding from The Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.
