STORM COUNTRY returns for one final run

STORM COUNTRY is back by popular demand for three final weekends!

August 26 – September 10

Storm Country, Ithaca’s first exploration in the pioneering form of headphone theater, was a sold-out success last year. The set design of this show is Ithaca itself, and the Storm Country corner of Ithaca is about to change. After this fall, Storm Country will no longer work. Don’t miss this last chance to catch it— and see your world through new ears.

Reservations are required:

Called a “beautiful” and “haunting” “audio adventure” by the Ithaca Journal, Storm Country immerses audiences in a world of voices, music, and environmental sounds as they travel among the ghosts of Ithaca’s West End. Inspired by “Tess Of The Storm Country” (a wildly successful 1909 Ithaca-based novel, made into two silent films starring Mary Pickford), Storm Country interweaves the strands of Tess’ melodrama with the hidden histories of the neighborhood where they happen. In doing so Storm Country explores the issues that remain as vital in today’s Ithaca as they are in the novel: finding home and being denied it, trespassing and the need for security, the power of the water to transform and be transformed.

Storm Country is a unique theatrical experience which involves a walk of about one mile over the course of 75 minutes, punctuated with several stops along the way to sit.

You’ll meet a Cherry staff member at Lookout Point on the Erie Barge Canal, at the tip of Ithaca’s Inlet Island (park at the Boatyard Grill restaurant). You’ll be given an MP3 player and other materials to take with you on your journey. Please feel free to bring your own stereo headphones or earbuds!

The walk culminates at 102 Cherry Street on the Cayuga Inlet. From there it’s about a 15-minute walk back to the starting point. Email or call 607-241-0703 with any questions.
