A special benefit screening of the documentaries The Throwaways and Outta the Muck and a sneak peek at the work-in-progress A Tale of Two Journeys
February 28, 2026
Cherry Performance Space, 102 Cherry St, Ithaca

For Black History Month, we will be hosting a special benefit screening of the documentaries The Throwaways and Outta the Muck and a sneak peek at the work-in-progress A Tale of Two Journeys

The Throwaways is a personal exploration of the devastating impact of police brutality and mass incarceration on the Black community told through the eyes of formerly incarcerated activist Ira McKinley. With a raw and powerful urgency, the film speaks directly to the national movement that is rising up and fighting back against police killings of Black people in America.

Told through stories that transcend space and time, the second film Outta The Muck presents a community, and a family, that resists despair with love, remaining fiercely self-determined, while forging its own unique narrative of Black achievement.

The sneak peek work-in-progress is McKinley’s newest project A Tale of Two Journeys, centered on Ithaca and the Underground Railroad. The screenings will be followed by a panel discussion.

Admission is by donation starting at $5. All proceeds will benefit Ira’s forthcoming film and the Cherry Arts.
